1. What are Wine Dating Parties? Grape Vine Social has spent a long time researching the dating scene to discover which components go into making a great sociable night out. We’ve blended together the best bits to create our unique dating formula. Our events incorporate a good crowd of sociable singletons, a funky venue, good hosts and a reason for people to mingle. It's all a bit of fun with some great wines and a great party atmosphere. Our guests aren’t expected to know anything about wine, just be open to trying different types of wines, having fun and meeting new people in a relaxed sociable evening. There’s more chat, less speed, and a lots of fun! 2. How is it different to speed dating? Our events allow you to mingle with other people for longer than a few minutes. This allows you to learn more about them than just their name, age and where they work! Guests also mingle in groups, which allows for more chat, less pressure and much less chance of the awkward silences that can happen with one-on-one dating. The wine tasting element, together with our fun wine quiz gives guests plenty to talk about and get involved with on the night, so there’s not much chance of feeling bored or stuck for words. 3. What is the format of the evening? We feel that the most sociable and fun format for our guests to meet, mingle and taste wine is in groups of six rather than one-on-one. This allows guests to meet more people on the night, enjoy a more sociable and fun evening in a relaxed atmosphere. Each group tastes one type of wine, guesses one round of the wine quiz and mingles before moving round to the next round. The men do the moving round, and bring the wines over to the group. With 6 wines to taste, guests meet up to 18 guests of the opposite sex during the wine tasting part of the evening. 4. Do I need to know about wine? We do not expect our guests to know anything about wine before coming to an event, just be open to trying different wines and seeing what you like. Our events are not about serious wine tasting, they are all about tasting wine in a sociable atmosphere and enjoying a great evening. We provide information about the wines being tasted for guests to read at their leisure. Our wine quiz is a fun and light-hearted way for guests to learn a bit about wine and enjoy tasting it. 5. How long does each event last? Guests arrive at our events from 7ish, and mingle at the bar until all guests have arrived. Due to the format of the evening, it is important that all guests have arrived before we start the event. The wine tasting session usually finishes around 10pm, when guests free to continue mingling in the bar for as long as the venue is open. 6. Where are events held? Our events are held at venues across London plus other cities around the UK. Please click here for a list of all events and venues or click here to email us for more information. 7. How many wines do I taste? Guests taste a total of 6 wines at our events. Depending on what region we are showcasing, the wines will be a variety of sparkling, white, rose and red wines. 8. How many units will I have had from the wine tasting? Guests will taste a total of 6 wines during our wine tasting session. Of course, it is up to the guest how much they consume! The total amount served equates to around half a bottle of wine, or 375ml. Based on a 12% abv bottle of wine, this is 4.5 units. For more information on sensible drinking click here. 9. Where are the wines from? We showcase a variety of wines from around the world at our events, ranging from California, to Australia, France, Portugal and even England! 10. What information do I get about the wines? Tasting notes of all the wines are given to guests on the night, together with general information about the brands and the regions where the wines originate. The post event email sent to all guests after the event contains a link with this information together with local outlets where the wine can be purchased. Guests are welcome to send any questions or queries about the wines to us at info@grapevinesocial.com. 11. What happens when I arrive? On arrival, guests sign in with our hosts, who will give you your dating card and wine quiz. Guests are free to mingle in the bar at the start of the evening, while everyone arrives. The wine tasting part of the evening begins when all guests have arrived. 12. What happens next? Once everyone has arrived, our hosts will go through how the wine speed dating session works. The girls then take their seats and the guys collect wine from the bar to take for themselves and one of the girls at their table. Each wine tasting session lasts around 15 minutes, enough time to meet your group, chat, taste the wine, try the quiz and most importantly have fun. The guys then return to the bar to collect a different wine and move to the next group. 13. How many people do I meet? Our wine dating parties usually attract between 40-50 guests, (depending on the location and age range). This means you will typically meet between 20-25 people of the opposite sex at an event. 14. What is the male to female ratio? Our booking system controls ticket sales to ensure there is a 50/50 split of men to women at all of our dating parties. Whilst we do all we can to ensure this, unfortunately we cannot guard against every eventuality that may compromise this ratio, such as work commitments, illness, transport problems, weather, change of heart etc! 15. What if I like someone at the event? All guests are given dating cards for the evening, where they jot down the names of people they meet that they would like to keep in touch with. Guests hand back their cards at the end of the evening to the hosts who then ensure all details are stored. After the event, all guests receive an email with details of people that asked for their details to be passed onto them. If you forget to hand your card back at an event, please email us at info@grapevinesocial.com or call us on 07956 577 566 to tell us your matches within 48 hours. 16. How will I know if I get any matches? If the event is held on a Friday, Grape Vine Social will email guests on the following Monday with a detailed email giving you a reminder of the people you liked and a list of the people who liked you. Along with a list of the wines you tasted and where to buy them. If the event is held on any other day of the week, a post event email will be sent over within 24 hours. 17. I have lost my dating scorecard, what should I do? If you have lost your score card from an evening, just email us with the names of the people would like to forward your email address to, and we will pass on your details. Simply email us at info@grapevinesocial with the date and location of the event you attended. 18. How much do your dating events cost? Our events usually cost around the £30 mark, which includes your wine tasting, as well as the dating evening, and with some venues free entry into the club. As a comparison, most other mid-week dating events charge around £20-25 without drinks. We believe our prices are a great deal for whats included and for a Friday night out! 19. Why do I need to book in advance? Our events require an equal balance of men and women, and we only have a certain number of spaces available for each. Advance bookings ensure we maintain as equal ration as possible. 20. What if I don’t want to pay online? Grape Vine Social operates its online booking system through WorldPay – a secure payment facility used around the world. WorldPay processes most credit or debit cards. However, if you are not comfortable paying online or do not have access to the internet, please call us on 07956 577 566 and we’ll be happy to take your booking over the phone. We accept all credit and debit cards and there is no telephone booking fee. 21. How do I book for a group? You can book for up to 3 people at a time using our online booking system. If you would like to book a larger group, simply make two or more consecutive payments. Alternatively, call us on 07956 577 566 and we will take your booking over the phone. 22. Why are so many events always sold out for women but not men? Cue the men are from mars, women are from venus story. Ladies tend to organise their social lives well in advance with the help of their trusty diaries and friends. This isn't the same for men. Between 30-50% of our male tickets are sold between 2-24 hours before an event. 23. How do I collect my tickets? We do not issue tickets for any of our events. We have all the names of our guests on the night, and guests sign in on arrival. So you don't need to worry about remembering to bring your tickets! 24. What happens if I can’t make an event once I have booked? Our events are heavily dependent on the male to female ratio being as equal as possible. As per our terms and conditions, we do not offer transfers or refunds on any tickets. We are however, happy for a replacement guest to attend in your place. Please email us within 24 hours of the event with the full name and email address of your replacement guest. 25. What should I wear? Dress however makes you feel comfortable, but remember first impressions count, so the saying dress to impress generally applies! A number of our events include free entry into clubs afterwards so please check the dress code for these. 26. What type of people attend Wine Tasting dating events? People like you! Sociable single professionals who like a glass of good wine, enjoy meeting new people and having a good night out. The aim of the evening is to meet new people, and the format of the evening ensures this, so it doesn’t matter if you come alone or in a group, you will still meet the same number of people. 28. I am outside the specified age group - can I still attend? We have age limits at all our events to ensure that guests meet like-minded professionals. Whilst we cannot enforce age checks at our events, we hope that guests respect our age brackets, and also respect other guests who are expecting to meet people in the specified age range. 29. Why don’t you have more events for the over 40’s Unfortunately it’s a simple case of supply and demand. We would love to run more regular events for the older age groups, however, these events are much harder to populate, particularly with men! We would welcome any suggestions on this, so please contact us with your ideas! 30. There aren't any events in my area. What can I do? We are steadily expanding out events across the UK. If you are in an area that we currently do not cover, please email us at info@grapevinesocial.com and register your interest in our events in your area. If there is enough interest, we will definitely put an event on! 31. Can my company partner with your events? Yes.
