Our wine dating guests were treated to a selection of wines from Faustino in Spain.

Voted the UK's favourite Rioja, the Faustino range has been one of Spain's greatest family owned bodega since 1861.

Its vineyards are located in the upper part of Rioja Alavesa, and enjoy the best geographical & climatic conditions needed to produce the highest quality wines.

Faustino V Reserva
Description
Intense aromas and flavours combine effortlessly with acidity and tannins, (both grape and oak) which have been softened and married by at least 16 months in American oak and 2 years in bottle. The result is velvety and harmonious with richness and spice on the finish.

Serving Suggestion
Lamb, rich poultry casseroles (coq au vin), pork.
 

Faustino VII Sin Crianza red (Tinto)
Description
Ruby in colour, having lost the purple intensity of extreme youth and the palate has rich jammy fruits with slight hints of sweetness, vanilla and spice on the finish, evidence of the 10 months it has spent in new American oak.

Serving Suggestion
Barbecue food, sausages, burgers, steaks, cottage pie, steak and kidney pie, grilled chops lamb or pork.

 
 

Faustino VII Rosado
Description
Made from 80% Tempranillo and 20% Garnacha the wine combines a pretty pink colour with good fruit aromas and flavours and a soft easy balance of acidity and alcohol. (At only 13% alcohol this wine avoids the ‘hot burn’ and clumsiness often associated with rose wines made from 100% Garnacha).

Serving Suggestion
Crisp salads and sandwiches particularly ham and chicken, fish.
 

Faustino V White Crianza
Description
Light citric fruits on both the palate and nose combine gracefully with spice from French Allier oak, in which the wine is aged for 6/7 months. The oak influence gives the wine increased structure and weight, which makes it perfect with food and adds considerably to its appeal and complexity.

Serving Suggestion
Roast chicken, ham, fish in sauces.
 

Faustino V White Sin Crianza
Description
This sin crianza is made from 100% Viura and is fermented slowly over 16 days with temperatures controlled to 16 C and below. The resulting wine is crisp and lively with primary fruit aromas and flavours, some weight on the palate and a fresh clean finish.

Serving Suggestion
Shellfish, fish and chips, salads, chicken kebabs, vegetarian dishes, omelettes.

 

Condesa de Leganza Viura
Description
Fresh citric fruits are evident on the nose and the palate is lively but structured, with slightly more depth of flavour than one might expect, due to the cold maceration. This is an excellent introduction to wines from La Mancha and perfectly illustrates what can be achieved; it is also good value for money.

Serving Suggestion
Easy drinking wine good on its own in front of the TV or at a party. Matches well with simple chicken dishes, salads, fish or pizza.
